Choosing a size and fabric
Pattern size is set in stitches; the finished size depends on your fabric. 14-count Aida is the most common: 110 stitches ≈ 8 inches. Higher counts give smaller, finer pieces.
Patterns are measured in stitches. How big the finished piece is depends on the fabric's count — how many stitches fit in an inch.
- 14-count Aida (the most popular): 110 stitches ≈ 7.9 in / 20 cm.
- 16-count Aida: about 12% smaller.
- 18-count Aida: about 22% smaller, with finer detail.
- 11-count Aida: bigger stitches, great for beginners and children.
- 28-count evenweave or linen stitched "over two" works out the same size as 14-count.
The creator shows the finished size for the fabric you choose, and the pattern's cover lists every option. Our fabric size calculator helps too.
