Using your pattern in stitching apps

Use the 'app' PDF with PDF-based chart apps and the OXS file with apps that open OXS. The print PDF has two copies of the chart, which confuses some apps.

We make a separate app PDF for chart-tracking apps. It follows the layout these apps publish for pattern designers: symbols are real text in an embedded font, the thread key lists symbol, DMC number and name on one line each, there's a single black-and-white chart, a consistent grid and no overlapping rows.

We're still testing these files in each app ourselves, so we don't promise that a particular app will open them yet. If one doesn't, we'll fix the file or refund you.

PDF-based apps (for example Pattern Keeper)

Import the file ending in -app-letter.pdf or -app-a4.pdf (either works). If the app asks about overlap, choose no overlap. Backstitch outlines usually aren't imported — add them from the printed color chart.

Apps that open OXS files

Open the .oxs file. It contains every stitch, the DMC palette and backstitch lines.
